About Albuquerque's Sandia Heights:

If you are looking for wide open natural spaces and panoramic views of the Sandia Mountains and City
of Albuquerque, then Sandia Heights might just be the place for you.  Located in Albuquerque's Far
Northeast Heights and situated near and in the foothills of the majestic Sandia Mountains, the Sandia
Heights community spans 1,600 acres.  Evergreens like Pinon and Juniper, along with Chamisa, Apache
Plume, and Yellow Prickly Pear cactus inhabit this beautiful high desert landscape.  The best of both
worlds, in Sandia Heights you can experience the peaceful surrounding of Albuquerque's high desert
landscape, while still living minutes away from city conveniences.  Outdoor recreational amenities
abound in Sandia Heights and the surrounding protected Open Space forest, providing wonderful
places to hike, mountain bike, bird watch, and ski.  Here in Sandia Heights you will also find the famous
Sandia Peak Tramway, the world's longest aerial tramway.  All of this while still being minutes away
from fine dining, shopping, and local Albuquerque businesses.

In 1965 The Sandia Peak Tram Company broke ground with the very first housing subdivision in this
area, and since then over 2,200 custom homes have been built.  In 1972 the Sandia Heights Home
Owners Association was established.  According to their website, their mission is to "promote the
common interest of the homeowners, property owners and residents located within Sandia Heights
and to preserve the unique character and quality of life of the area."

Most homes sit on hilly one-half acre to one-acre sized lots, with yards that maintain the dignity of the
area's natural environment, native habitats, and quiet beauty.  Instead of seeing Kentucky bluegrass
lawns, you are more likely to see natural wildflowers and fauna, pinon trees, and massive boulders in
people's yards, as part of the great effort placed on protecting wildlife and the natural landscape.
Water conservation has also played a strong role in dictating housing development strategies.  In fact
Sandia Heights was the first subdivision in Albuquerque to require water conservation in its planning
developments.    Custom architectural home designs range from modern/contemporary to
pueblo/southwestern. Home styles range from "Santa Fe" style to Southwestern to Contemporary.

Where is Sandia Heights Located?

Sandia Heights is situated east of Tramway Blvd., north of Academy Rd., and just west of
the Bernalillo/ Sandoval County border.  And, of course, to the east of the Sandia Heights
area stands the majestic Sandia Mountains.
