About Albuquerque's Ridgecrest, UNM, and Nob Hill Areas:

Many people looking for a "Live-Work-Play", pedestrian-friendly, and tight-knit community
experience, choose to live in the UNM, Nob Hill, and Ridgecrest communities.  Like many University
neighborhoods, these areas cultivate a vibrant art and culture scene, which is often reflected in the
area's architecture.  People often describe homes located in the Nob Hill and Ridgecrest areas as
"charming", "artistic", "upscale" and "full of character".  Most homes are 50-60 years old, marked with
mature and lush landscaping, solid craftsman, and have been remodeled and updated.   Home styles
range from Cottage to Modern to Southwestern to Bungalow.  Because real estate in the Nob Hill,
Ridgecrest and UNM areas have been traditionally sought after, price per square foot tends to run
higher than other areas in Albuquerque.  However, many home buyers find the slightly higher price
range of Ridgecrest and Nob Hill to be worth the investment.  Many locals say they would live no
where else.

The University/Nob Hill District began growing in the 1940's and centers on the historic Route 66, also
known as Central Ave.  Much of this district's magnetism comes from the energy created by the
nearby University community and environment.  In Nob Hill you will find many locally owned specialty
shops, fine galleries, entertainment, and dining experiences.  Local favorites include La Montanita
Coop Food Market, the Guild Theater, Mariposa Gallery, Annapurna Ayurvedic Cuisine and Chai
House, Hey Jhonny, Peacecraft, Scalo Fine Italian Cuisine, 20 Carrots Vegetarian Café, Winning Coffee
House, Flying Star and Satellite Café, El Patio and too many others to name.  And of course the nearby
University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM) offer many exciting
community events and functions, including Off-Broadway shows presented at UNM's Popejoy Hall,
engaging lectures,  and bird and turtle watching at the campus Duck Pond.  The Nob Hill, Ridgecrest,
and UNM neighborhoods are also very bike friendly, and it is not uncommon for local residents to
choose cycling over driving.  During the Summer and Fall months, the Nob Hill Growers Market is a
favorite community gathering place where locals can stock up on some of the best locally produced,
organic fruits and vegetables.
