About the Town of Bernalillo, New
Mexico

The charming Town of Bernalillo lies just 15 miles North of Albuquerque, and is bordered by the town
of Rio Rancho.  The town is surrounded by the slow but steady Rio Grande River.  Its main street,
Camino del Pueblo, is also the historical US Route 66.  Here you will see amazing views of the Sandia
Mountains, as well as be on your way to Jemez Mountains, located North West of the town.  Just over
8,500 people live in Bernalillo, which contributes to its small town feel.

Bernalillo is well known to New Mexico locals as the host of the annual Bernalillo Wine Festival every
Labor Day Weekend.  The wine industry was first established in the early 1600s, and has since survived
and held strong for all these centuries.  Other annual events include the Fiestas of San Lorenzo,
Festival de Otono, and the Christmas Parade.

Major employers of the town include the county government and Bernalillo Public Schools.  Many
people who prefer to avoid the hustle and bustle of much bigger cities like Rio Rancho and
Albuquerque, find the short commute to work outside the Town of Bernalillo is worth it to be able to
come home to a slower-paced town like Bernalillo.  Within a 10 mile radius, there are also three Pueblo
Casinos, and the two high end resorts and golf courses owned by the Sandia and Santa Ana Pueblos.

Other places of interest include the Coronado State Monument and Plein Air New Mexico Gallery.  For
some old world, creative furniture, folk art, and garden decor, locals and tourists alike know to stop in
at Jackalope.  And as far as good food is concerned, the Range Cafe and Prairie Star Restaurant in the
Santa Ana Resort can lay their claim.
